Background
Suni Williams, born in 1965 in Ohio and raised in Massachusetts, has had a diverse background of being Part Indian and Slovone American; moreover, she has a diverse background of careers and extensive experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science from the Florida Institute of Technology. Her professional journey began in the U.S. Navy, where she served as a Naval Aviator and Test Pilot, accumulating over 3000 flight hours in various aircraft.
NASA and Space Flight
In 1998, Suni Williams was selected as an astronaut by NASA. Her training included various skills, from shuttle and space station systems to survival techniques. She worked with the Russian Space Agency and participated in the NEEMO2 underwater habitat mission. After her initial flight, she served as Deputy Chief of the Astronaut Office and later became a Flight Engineer and International Space Station Commander for Expeditions 32 and 33.
Williams has an impressive spaceflight record, with two missions. During Expedition 14/15, she spent time on the International Space Station and conducted four spacewalks, setting a record for female astronauts. In Expedition 32/33, she spent 127 days in space and performed three spacewalks. She is currently preparing for her third long-duration mission aboard the International Space Station as part of the Starliner-1 mission.
